They are a pervasive species with over 300-350 variations that range from shrubs to tall 30 foot behemoths. One interesting fact about them is that in shrub form they can be so dense and thick they can build an impenetrable thicket. So gardeners have found unique ways to turn them into privacy hedges and thickets. And they are one of the only species that have both evergreen and deciduous leaves. In nature they can have spiked thorns and be extremely difficult to trim and work with.
