The Scents of the Season: Holiday Scented Items

Once you have spent the time to set up your tree, hang, your garlands, get out your ornaments, and dress your home from top to bottom with your favorite Christmas decorations, go that final step by appealing to your sense of smell. Cranberries, cinnamon, and gingerbread are all common scents associated with the Holidays. Greet guests at your front door with all their favorite smells of the seasons when you try these easy tips for decorating with holiday scented items.

Plug-In Scents
there are many different companies that offer plug-in oils that you can use throughout your home. If you have these gems lying around your house, refill them with holiday-scented selections. Stick with one scent and stick with it throughout your home. Too many conflicting scents can be unappealing.

Baskets and Bowls of Potpourri
Bags of holiday-scented pinecones are readily available at your local home decor stores. Use them to fill a basket or a beautiful bowl to add both a decoration and a festive scent to the room. A beautiful bow tied on the handle of the bow is a perfect accent.

Cinnamon Scented Brooms
The entry of virtually every grocery store this time of year features a display of cinnamon-scented brooms. Not just do they smell great, but they are also a great decor item for a mantle, entry table, or the top of a bookshelf. You could even hang a pair of them above a frame collage in a hallway or up a staircase.

Candles
You can get beautifully scented candles and add them to the candlesticks and glass cylinders that you use all year round. Place elevated scented candles on a mantle to offset a winding garland or in the center of a Christmas wreath that is placed in the center of a table.

Tip:
While I think that adding scented items to a home is the finishing touch that any holiday decorations need, I do not recommend using any in a kitchen. The artificial scents of these items can be unappealing when mixed with the natural scents of the meals that you cook.
