The southwestern region is beautiful in it’s natural hostility. In leu of grass, this region is covered in arid desert. Coming from Florida, the though of an area with no grass seemed so foreign to me, but the first time that I drove through Arizona, I was shocked by the beauty in the hard landscape.
Instead of grassy medians, the streets are bordered with beautiful rocks of varying colors arranged in intricate designs. Even the color of the businesses and homes in the Southwest have been chosen to blend in with the landscape, paying honor to the beauty in both the desert and the mountains alike.
Cacti are plentiful in this region. Not only can they stand up to the long hours of blistering heat under the bright desert sun, but they can also go weeks and weeks without rainfall and still stand strong. Most of the time, when we thing of a cactus, the image of a saguaro comes to mind, with it’s tall reaching arms. There are also a number of other cacti varieties that are native to this region, including barrel cactus, finger cactus, agave cactus, and more.
Whether you live in the Southwest or just fell in love with the region, an artificial cactus is a great way to represent this region in your own home. Because the Southwest has such a rich Native American history, cacti are frequently featured in authentic Native American artwork and crafts. Place a potted cactus on a mantle, alongside a horse hair vase or beautiful Native American painting.
