Take advantage of natural lighting and the season’s beautiful backdrop by making outdoor Christmas photos your new tradition. Creating the perfect backdrop for these meaningful photographs is easier than you may think. Try these fun ideas or build on them to create a unique photo of your own.
A Growing Family
As a family, plant a tree in your yard. Every year, cover the tree in beautiful Christmas lights and take your picture under it. These annual Christmas cards are the perfect way to watch your family grow along with the tree. First, choose the type of decorations you want to use. There are many indoor/outdoor options available, including fun ornaments meant for the outdoors. Second, choose a pose. Do you all want to be sitting on a bench in front of the tree, sitting on the ground, or standing in front of it? Make the tradition even more memorable by completing the night with hot chocolate and your favorite holiday treats.
A Holiday Arbor
Create an entrance that looks great all year and doubles as the perfect place to take your annual Christmas photo. Place an arbor or gazebo in your front yard and drape it in rich garlands, twinkling lights, and anything else you may desire. The arbor will set the stage for the rest of your outdoor decorations and surround your loved ones in the gentle glow of lights. Decorating an arbor is fast and easy because the slatted top and lattice sides allow you to wind decorations with very little effort.
Treasured Memories
Do you find yourself looking back on Christmases past, trying to remember what you did and what your children asked for? Give each of your children a whiteboard and allow them to write or draw their Christmas list for Santa on it. Then take a picture of your children lined up on a bench, each holding their whiteboards. Save the photos from year to year, sliding them into a small photo album and give them to your children when they are grown and move out of the house. This tradition will become so loved that your children will be sure to continue it with their own children.
