Memorial Day, originally known as “Decoration Day” has origins that date back as early as 1868. At that time, it was intended to be a day that the whole country can stop and remember both the Union and Confederate soldiers who lost their lives during the civil war.
Over the years, this day of remembrance has evolved. We now spend the last Monday in May paying tribute to all the men and women who have lost their lives defending our country, not just during the Civil War, but in every war since then.
We could not be more grateful to all the men and women who defend our country but a special thanks goes out to the families of those we have lost defending our freedom. This day is for you, and the sacrifice you have made.
