Find Your Style: Americana

Just as there in art, furniture has some very defined styles that have made their mark in history. Over the next few weeks we are going to take a closer look at some of our favorite furniture styles. We will define their specific elements and introduce you to some new indoor and outdoor pieces that take on that classic style. Today, we are going to start with Americana furniture and accessories.

Americana Furniture & Accessories

Americana furniture consists of items that celebrate a specific region within the states. It is generally a clean style that celebrates natural elements such as wood. This furniture consists of rich tones and muted colors that are indicative of the region. When it comes to design, these pieces are made with practicality and comfort in mind. There are three primary subcategories within the umbrella of Americana furniture. Let’s take a closer look at each one.

Americana Furniture

Mission Style

Mission style furniture (commonly referred to as arts and crafts)
celebrates careful workmanship. This style almost always boasts
rectilinear lines  and is made out of rich wood. This style of
furniture is all about the work that goes into it so careful
attention is paid to the smaller details.

The defining characteristics of Mission-style furniture can be
found in the home itself, furniture design, and even garden
elements such as this beautiful wooden arbor. If this is the style
of your home, reinforce it with coordinating furniture.

Americana Furniture

Shaker Style

It is a term commonly referred to when talking about cabinets
but shaker is really a style of furniture as well. At first it may
seem simple, but that is because shaker furniture is design to be
functional and efficient first. Ladder-back chairs, are just one
common example of this unadorned style. This swing has the ?
same look of a ladder-back chair in a new and functional way.

Americana Furniture

Southwestern Style

The earth is the primary inspiration of Southwestern furniture.
The rugged dessert inspires this nature-driven design style.
Southwestern furniture features fabrics with rich earth tones
accented by wood adorned with intricate carvings. There is a
clear Native American influence in both these carvings and
the textiles.

This picture is a prime example of how the area can inspire
everything from furniture down to the accessories. Hang it over
a mantle with cacti below.
