We all have our favorite vacation destinations. Curve out a part of your outdoor space to pay homage to the favorite places in your travels. Here are three great ways to transform your plain patio into a place that will evoke memories of vacations past. each of these ideas uses regional artificial plants, so you don’t have to worry about your weather killing the plants.
Patio from Paradise
If you dream of the days when you can dig your toes into the warm sand, then tropical design is the look for you. Take an underutilized patio and transform it into the space of your dreams. Start with a pair of rattan chairs. Between them, place a small occasional table. In a corner, place a beautiful tropical artificial plant such as a potted palm or a large philodendron. A bird of paradise will add a pop of color. Finish the look with a tall glass hurricane. Fill it with a couple inches of sand and a tropical scented candle.
Desert Oasis
The desert offers landscapes unlike any you see in other parts of the country. Instead of grass, you see beautiful rock gardens. Plants have to be hardy to stand up to the arid weather, so in these locations you will find a lot of cacti, aloes, and agaves. If you have a grassy area that is more dirt than grass, pull out the grass and replace it with small rocks. Add a pop of green to the space by purchasing artificial potted desert plants and arranging them in odd numbers.
Mountain Must-Haves
If you take every available vacation day to head to the slopes, bring a little bit of the mountains back to you. Add nice lodge-style furniture to an outdoor living space. Native-American inspired accents are great to incorporate in throws or area rugs. Finish the look by creating a privacy screen by placing multiple artificial cedar trees right next to each other.
