Easy DIY Ombre Christmas Decorations

One trend that can be seen throughout fashion and interior design is ombre patterns. An ombre pattern is when an item starts with a dark tone of a color and gradually lightens until it reaches a pale tone of the same color. The stripes of color blend into one another to create an elegant and fashionable effect.

Ombre White Christmas Tree

You can create a stunning ombre effect on your Christmas tree. Start with a white Christmas tree or a heavily flocked Christmas tree so that you have a nice, neutral background. Now pick your color scheme. You will want four or five shades of ornaments in that color family. Divide your tree into four or five equal sections.

The bottom section should contain ornaments in the darkest shade. Each level after that should go just slightly lighter, with the lightest at the top. Top off your tree with a topper the same color or slightly lighter than your faintest row and you are done. Ombre trees look best with soft clear LED Christmas lights.

Ombre Christmas Wreath

Once you learn this technique you can use any materials your heart desires to create beautiful custom wreaths. If this is your first wreath, start with a Styrofoam form in the size you need. Choose yarn or ribbons in four or five shades. Pick your darkest shade first and with each selection go one shade lighter.

Draw lines one the form to divide it into equal sections. You will want two sections for each color of yarn you have. Use a glue gun to run a bead of glue along the back of the Styrofoam, one section at a time. Then wrap the first two sections in your darkest color. The sections directly touching those sections should both be one shade lighter. Continue this process until you reach the last two sections, which should both be your lightest color. Once you are done hot glue a few ornaments, artificial flowers, or ribbons to the wreath and hang it from a long piece of ribbon tied in a bow. Now that you know how to ombre like a star designer, what will you decorate?
