Every year our family hosts a Christmas cookie exchange party. Every invitee makes 2 dozen cookies for the party, and we display them on our cake stands and appetizer platters on the dining room table. Every person gets to choose a dozen cookies to take home to their family. The remaining cookies are up for sale to give to friends and family with the money being donated to charity. It is a great event and we love to decorate the house to kickoff the Holiday season. It gives us a great reason to get our decorations up early and the Christmas table centerpieces look great for the rest of the month.
The focal point of our dining room is clearly the big, beautiful Christmas tree in the corner. Classic red and white ornaments are shown off by the twinkling white lights. Because of the tree’s presence, it is essential that our Christmas table centerpieces compliment the tree without competing with it.
Start with a Runner
Show off the beautiful natural wood of your table by placing a gorgeous runner down the center of it. It adds a layer of protection to the table while leaving enough of it exposed to show off the dining set itself. For the best results, make sure that the runner is in contrast with the table finish while still within a holiday color scheme. We like to use a white runner on our table so that it doesn’t compete with the other colors on the table and in the room.
Add A Trio of Cone Trees
Cone trees are a very trendy holiday decorating item right now and when we extend our table we can fit 3 of them. Choose your favorite cone tree and purchase them in triplicate. Space them evenly along the center of the table runner.
Arrange An Assortment of Candles
We also like to use candlesticks topped off with crisp white tapers. The tapers and candlesticks are of varying heights for added interest. If white does not appeal to you you could always try a glittered gold, red, or green.
Layer in Garland
Artificial garlands are perfect for long tables such as this. Weave them in and out of the trees and candlesticks, arranging the individual stems as you go.
Add Mini Wreaths
This year we added some mini wreaths to our cones for fun. It may take you two glances to see just how they are used. They are actually placed on top of the cone trees and rest about half way down. It is such a fun, and creative way to use them!
Hopefully, today’s post has inspired you to take your Christmas centerpieces to the next level. Be sure to send in pictures to cs@artificialplantsandtrees.com or post them on our facebook page and mention Nana! You will receive a 10% coupon off on a future order and your decorations may be featured on a future blog.
