There is one thing I can say for certain about silk ivy: There are some marvelous ways to display it, and there are some not-so-great ways to display it. Silk ivy is beautiful, but unless you hang it properly, it could end up with about as much luster as a fabulous shirt worn inside out.
To avoid such misfortune, you should start with buying artificial ivy that is of decent quality. It is no surprise that the more realistic the ivy, the better. And, you should take some time browsing home décor sites and magazines for inspiration on doing silk ivy right. It is a fun way to spend an afternoon, and you may stumble upon an idea you never would have dreamed up otherwise. Some of the ideas I’ve discovered myself are pretty clever. Allow me to share a couple with you.
Though ivy is often used as a border, it also makes great wall art, as long as you have adequate lighting and a great idea for how to arrange it. Mount a long ivy strand, say, 10 or more yards, on a gallery wall in a zig-zag pattern. Essentially, you’re creating a wave design with silk greenery. This takes a matter of minutes, and you’ll end up with a hallway full of bright green freshness that you love to pass through.
Suspending ivy from the ceiling is another dramatic and unusual method of hanging silk ivy. It’s also one of the easiest ways to display it. Choose a well-lit area for display. Using a stapler, tack a strand of ivy to the ceiling, allowing the greenery to spiral toward the floor. This creates the look of a hanging plant, no pot or macramé required. For a fuller design, hang your ivy parallel to a potted hanging plant, allowing it to wind loosely around it. This will add texture and shape to any hanging display.
