When you love to read, you know the importance of having an inviting and comfortable area in which to do so. Whether you prefer sitting down to read the morning paper or prefer delving deep into a great novel, we have some simple design tips that will help you create the comfortable reading nook of your dreams. When take a couple of things into consideration, it is easy to create a little retreat for you and your favorite read.
How to Design a Comfortable Reading Nook
Choose a Space for Your Nook
Before you can do anything else, decide where in your home you would like your reading nook to be located. Take careful measurements of that area, as these will be used to determine how much furniture can be added to the space. If you have items already there, remove them so you can start with a blank slate. If you choose to keep something, keep in mind that it will have to fit within your overall design aesthetic.
Pick a Chair or Two
If you want to sit down to read, you are going to need a comfortable chair in which to do so. Look for something with plush cushions, a deep seat, and comfortable arms. Just because it is functional doesn’t mean that this chair can’t also be stylish. Make your first big style statement by choosing a chair that is attractive as it is functional.
Add a Side Table
With your chair in place, choose a side table that compliments the style of the chair. If you also want to be able to store some reading materials, opt for one with shelves or perhaps even a drawer. Of course, if that does not even begin to house your collection, placing a stylish bookcase near the chair is also an option.
Illuminate the Space
A reading nook would not be complete without some well-placed task lighting. The table lamp you choose should be positionable so you can direct the light where you need it. Dress up the area with a pretty and feminine light or give the space a nod to the past with an industrial option.
Accessorize with Purpose
Every zone in your home requires accessories to tie it all together. When it comes to a reading nook, opt for accessories that will enhance the way you use the space. Place a basket on the floor for magazines and newspapers, a warm and cozy blanket over the back of the chair for chilly days, and a few beautiful coffee table books to define the space.
