The foyer of your home is the place where you greet your guests and welcome them into your space. Make that first impression a lasting one by decorating it in a beautiful, yet unobtrusive way. Here are some tips for entry spaces.
A Touch of the Outdoors
There is no better way to decorate a transitional space such as a foyer than with a beautiful potted plant. Instead of opting for a high-maintenance blooming variety, why not choose a preserved plant? They are real plants that have been carefully preserved to provide lasting beauty but they are just as low maintenance as artificial plants. Now that is the best of both worlds. If you have a narrow foyer, place it on a narrow entry table. If you have a grand entrance, a central round table is the perfect place for preserved plants like this.
Control Clutter
It is easy for mail, backpacks, and coats to pile up in your entryway, making it feel more junky than welcoming. Make sure control the clutter with a clever storage solution. For some, a hall tree is all you need to have a place to drop your things. If you have kids, you may need something with a bit more storage, such as a bench with a seat that lifts to provide a place for shoes and backpacks. Shelves I the bottom of a linen closet will provide low storage for your kids while still providing a place to hang those bulky winter coats.
Lighting
Nothing says dreary like a dark entry. Brighten things up by making sure there is a great light fixture hanging in your foyer. If things still seem dark add a par of table lamps on an entry table.
