Kitchens and dining rooms two of the places that we spend so much time in as a family, but unfortunately, they can also be forgotten spaces when it comes to design. Accessorizing kitchens and dining rooms is easier than you may think, especially when you use these fun design tips. Artificial artichokes and fruit are the perfect accessories for kitchens and dining rooms.
Think About Function
When it comes to kitchens, they can be as beautiful as ever but if they are not still functional, they will drive you crazy. That is why it is so important to think about function over everything else. Keeping cabinets organized, spices at hand, and your most-used pieces within arm’s reach will make your kitchen one of your favorite rooms in your home.
Do this by purchasing a beautiful vessel and filling it with your favorite utensils. Sure, you can purchase utensil caddies at your local home goods store but why not use this opportunity to infuse your personality into the space. If you are a gardener, a terra cotta pot or ceramic planter makes the perfect place to store spatulas, wooden spoons, and their counterparts.
Don’t Forget to Look Up
Nearly every kitchen has a forgotten space above their cabinets. This is your perfect opportunity to create a little vignette of your favorite things. Baskets, artificial plants, and decorative plates are all ideal candidates for this high-exposure area. It is not a good idea to use real plants above your cabinets because it would be incredibly difficult to water them on a regular basis and chances are they will not get the natural sunlight that they require.
Develop a Color Scheme
Just like every other room in your house, your kitchen and dining room can really benefit from having a clear color scheme. You can infuse these colors in your backsplash tiles, placemats, window treatments, hand towels, and even cookware.
Choose Location-Appropriate Accessories
I love the look of a fresh bowl of fruit but it drives me crazy that in a matter of days, that fruit is nothing more than a waste of money that lasted me for a very short time. That is why artificial pears and apples are such a great idea. They look so much like the real thing but they stay looking perfectly ripe for years. Place them inside a basket in the center of your island or in a decorative box on a dinning room buffet.
But what to do about the center of that dining table? Why not place a beautiful urn that is filled with artificial greenery and faux artichokes? This arrangement is classy enough for a formal dining room yet casual enough for a breakfast nook. Work these ideas into your kitchen and dining room and be sure to send us pictures of the finished result.
