I make a lot of wreaths and a simple jute-wrapped wreath is the base of a lot of them. I want to show you just how easy it is to make beautiful wreaths at home that are completely customized to coordinate with your décor. To get started, let’s talk about how to make a jute-wrapped wreath at home. Tomorrow, I will take the wreath that we make today and decorate it with beautiful handmade silk flowers, so be sure to come back tomorrow for part two of this tutorial.
To get started, take a trip to the local craft store and pick up a Styrofoam wreath form in your choice of size, a spool of jute, and a bottle of craft glue. You could also use a glue gun if you have one on hand. I like using Tacky Glue for this project so I don’t burn my fingers on hot glue. I chose a natural colored jute but you could just as easily select a colored jute.
Step 1:
Choose a front and a back of your wreath form. Starting in the back, place a dot of glue and glue down the beginning of your jute cord. Slowly wrap the cord around the Styrofoam form, making sure to keep each new wrap nice and close to the last one to cover the form completely. Place a line of glue on the back side a couple inches long at a time to keep the jute attached to the back of the form permanently.
Step 2:
Continue wrapping the jute around the form until the entire form is covered. You will have to pass the ball of jute through the center of the form to keep it from getting tangled.
Step 3:
When you come to the end of your form, cut the end of the jute off of the ball and glue it to the back with enough glue to keep that tail nice and secure.
Step 4:
Allow the glue to dry the whole way and then you are free to decorate this wreath with artificial flowers, handmade silk flowers, bells, ornaments, ribbons, and so much more.
With so many ways to decorate jute-wrapped wreaths you are sure to come back to this project time and time again. Want to know the cost of this project? I already had the glue in my craft supplies but the form and the jute were under $5 each so my whole project came in at under $10. Print out these instructions here and don’t forget to check back in tomorrow for a tutorial on making handmade silk flowers. Jute Wrapped Wreath
