Wine Bottle Vase

Festive floral arrangements don’t have to be a huge investment. Instead of shelling out a bunch of cash for an expensive vase, why not repurpose an empty wine bottle into a beautiful holiday vase? In our house, we have an empty bottle of wine every week that is destined for the recycling bin, until I cam up with a way to reuse it and decorate for fall at the same time.

Supplies:

  • Empty Wine Bottle
  • 6-Inch Wide Burlap Ribbon
  • 3-Inch Wide Accent Ribbon
  • 1-Inch Wide Accent Ribbon
  • Glittered Branches or Sprays
  • Small Artificial Berry Accents
  • A Festive Button or Small Painted Wood Shape
  • Hot Glue Gun

Step 1:
Wash and dry both the inside and the outside of your wine bottle.

Step 2:
Make sure that your hot glue gun is nice and hot and start gluing the top, bottom, and side edges of your ribbon around your wine bottle. I like to turn under the second side edge before gluing it down to make a back seam with no raw edges. Because my ribbon was only 6 inches wide, it was not even close to coming up to the top of my wine bottle. To solve that problem I wrapped a second level of the ribbon around the first level using the same gluing method and making sure that the seams lined up in the back. With the second level of ribbon, only glue down the bottom and side edges that touch the wider part of the wine bottle. Leave the top edge unglued so that you can cinch it later.

Step 3:
Cover up the seam that runs horizontally through the bottle where the two ribbons meet with an accent ribbon. Glue just the side edges of this accent ribbon where the seam in the back so that you can tuck berry stems into it a future step.

Step 4:
Use a rubber band (or hair elastic in my case) to cinch the top of the burlap ribbon around the neck of the bottle. Cover up the rubber band with a narrow accent ribbon in a nice, bright color. Just tie the ribbon into a simple bow and clip the ends at an angle.

Step 5:
Dress up your wine bottle vase with a couple stems of artificial berries that you slide into the opening at the top of the accent ribbon. Hot glue a wood shape or button to the front of the ribbon and fill the vase with your favorite glittered branches.

Tip:
The chevron and green ribbons that are glued down are season neutral. What makes this vase look so appropriate for Halloween are the branches, top orange ribbon, berries, and pumpkin accent. Fortunately, when Halloween is over I can remove all of those little accents and replace them with burgundy or red ones for Christmas.
