A sunroom is a wonderful addition to any home. They protect you from the elements, offer an additional living area, and provide you with a picturesque view of your yard. Most sunrooms feature large windows on all exposed walls and decorating them can be a challenge. Here are 5 tips for how to decorate a stylish sunroom that you will want to spend your time in.
1. Choose a Paint Color that You Find in Nature
The large windows in a sunroom mean that you have to coordinate the room itself with the view. Stand in your sunroom and scan your yard, picking out the various colors that you find. Pool blue, soft greens, and sandy beiges will be beautiful and reflect your landscape perfectly.
2. Consider How You Will Use the Room
Nobody knows your family better than you. If you want the sunroom to be a space that you spend a lot of time, take a moment to consider what you and your family like to do in your free time. If you play a lot of games or put together puzzles, a dining set is an absolute must. If you like to curl up with a book or sit and have drinks with friends, a comfortable sofa or sectional would be a better options. Choose the furniture that meets those needs.
3. Always Select Outdoor Fabrics
Even if your room is not exposed to the elements, outdoor fabrics are still a great selection. One of the main benefits of fabrics that are designed for outdoor use is that they are UV protected so they will not fade in the sun. Since sunrooms have a lot of windows, this is a very important feature. If you design your sunroom with indoor fabrics they will eventually fade due to exposure. Get extra years out of your curtains, cushions, and pillows by choosing the right type from the start.
4. Layer in Plants
Transitional spaces should take the best parts of the indoors and the outdoors and meld them together to create a cohesive design. Once you have furniture, rugs, and accessories in place to represent the best of the indoors, it is time to start layering in the plants. Place tall floor plants in the corners, small bud vases in the center of a coffee or dining table, and sconces filled with greenery on the walls. Hanging plants would look stunning hanging down between the windows. Choose plants that are in keeping with the design theme of your room and take notice of how this addition completes the space.
5. Comfort Counts
You aren’t going to spend a lot of time in your sunroom if it is not comfortable. Plush cushions, throw pillows, and warm blankets are all important items for these spaces but don’t stop there. Consider temperature as well. If the room tends to be cold, consider an indoor fireplace. If it tends to be hot, a ceiling fan would be an excellent addition.
