Your home looks beautiful during the day but once the sun goes down, are you wanting a little bit more ambiance? Creating a DIY lighted ficus is a great way achieve a beautiful, soft glow out of a dark corner of the room. This is a great decoration for a living room, formal dining room, master bedroom, or sunroom. Making a lighted ficus is easier than you may think. You just need a couple supplies and 15 minutes to complete this project at home.
Supplies
- Artificial Ficus Tree
- Strand of White Lights
- Green Floral Wire
- Wire Snips
Step 1: Cut the Floral Wire
Use your wire snips to cut a few dozen pieces of green floral wire. Each piece should measure about two inches long.
Step 2: Position the Artificial Ficus Tree
Before you can add the lights you must first determine where you want your artificial tics tree to be placed. Position the tree roughly where you want it while till allowing enough space for you to walk around the tree.
Step 3: Plug in the Lights
Take your lights out of their package and unwrap them carefully. Plug the lights either into a close outlet or into an extension cord that runs to the closest outlet. Having the lights lit makes it so much easier to position them on the tree because you can easily see if you have even coverage.
Step 4: Attach the Lights
Run the lights up the trunk of the ficus tree and then as you reach the first branch, start attaching the light strands to the branches, securing them as you go using those short lengths of floral wire. Work your way up the tree much like you would with a christmas tree. Having the lights on as you do this makes it easier to make sure every branch is illuminated.
Step 5: Add More Lights
Smaller artificial ficus trees will only require one strand of lights but if you have a larger tree, you may need to connect a few strands together to get full coverage.
